Dough Bowls FAQ
How safe are these?
We believe these are safe to burn as long as the person burning it, is aware of the warnings and burning instructions. (Those are listed below)
One thing to note about all candles is that the wax in a candle melts from the heat of the wick(s) burning. The wick(s) is only in contact with the wax and the holder that secures the wick in place, so the actual flame does not come in contact with the container.
Do I need to do anything different to burn this candle?
No you do not. We will always recommend that you abide by the federal warnings/burning instructions that are listed on the sticker attached to each and every one of our candles. Here’s a recap of those guidelines:
Ø Burn within sight (Do not light and walk away, be in the same room while lit)
Ø Keep away from flammable objects
Ø Trim wick to ¼” before lighting
Ø Keep candle free from foreign materials including matches and wick trimmings
Ø Do not burn candle for more than four hours at a time
Ø Stop use when only ¼” of wax remains
Do you spray any dough bowls with fire retardant?
No, we do not. We work to keep our candles as clean and as natural as possible and believe that the coconut-soy wax mixing with fire retardant chemicals is not a very healthy way to go.
Are these bowls completely watertight?
We cannot guarantee 100% water tightness of the bowl, however be assured that each bowl has been tested before we poured wax into it. We recommend if you do purchase one of our dough bowl candles and light, ensure that it sits on any surface that can handle wax clean up that may be necessary.
How many how exactly will these Dough Bowls last?
These wood bowls are hand carved so the exact dimensions and the amount of wax each holds will be slightly different. Currently, our average size is about 9” long x 6” wide and about 1 ¾” tall. They hold roughly 10 ounces of wax and have a burn time of 20-25 hours (It’s much faster burn time because it has 3 wicks.) The candle will reach an entire melt pool around the 4 hour mark. *which is exactly when you’d extinguish the flame according to the directions above. Yes we planned it that way.
What can I do with the dough bowl once the candle burns out?
You have several options!
One of our favorites is cleaning the bowl out and using it as a décor piece, check out Pinterest for many ideas.
Cleaning Instructions:
Carefully hold the bowl perpendicular over a waste basket and warm up the leftover wax with a blow dryer or heat gun. Pour out the liquid wax into the wastebasket, never down the sink! Once the wax is poured out carefully remove the wick holders. While still warm, I recommend using a blue shop towel (paper towels work in a pinch too) with some isopropyl alcohol to clean out the bowl. Some websites may say to use soap and water, but I do not recommend that since I do not want you to get any wax into your plumbing system. From there you can decorate using the decorative dish as a fantastic holder of keys, coins or wallet near the front door, or décor piece anywhere else around the house.
